Ecodan Air Source Heat Pumps

The Ecodan PUHZ and CAHV air source heat pump monobloc systems can operate singularly, or form part of a multiple unit system. Both models also come equipped with a wide range of controller features as standard.

The Monobloc systems means that all refrigerant is contained within the outdoor unit in a hermitically sealed system and water rather than refrigerant is piped to the unit.

The multiple unit systems have the ability to cascade available units on and off to meet the load from a building. As an example of this modulation, a 16 unit CAHV system allows 0.5kW increments of capacity, from 18kW all the way up to 688kW. This level of modulation is unprecedented within the heating industry and with cascade and rotation built in as standard. This level of modulation is also possible in single or cascade PUHZ systems (5 – 84kW).

Both the Ecodan PUHZ and CAHV systems are perfectly suited to a wide range of residential and commercial applications.

Ecodan Split Air to Water Heat Pumps

The brand new Ecodan PUHZ-SW air source heat pump split systems can operate singularly, or form part of a multiple unit system. All models also come equipped with a wide range of controller features as standard.

The Split system means that as well as the PUHZ-SW units being outside, there is also a Cylinder or Hydrobox that is required inside. There are two refrigerant pipes that join the Ecodan unit outside and the Cylinder / Hydrobox unit inside.

The multiple unit systems have the ability to cascade available units on and off to meet the load from a building. This is possible with up to 6 units in cascade PUHZ-SW systems (4 – 72kW)

The Ecodan PUHZ-SW split systems are perfectly suited to a wide range of residential and commercial applications. Small commercial units and flats are ideal, due to the long pipe runs and no need for water connections outside.

Cylinders

To ensure that you get the best performance and enjoy the full range of benefits that Ecodan has to offer, we recommend you install an approved packaged or pre-plumbed solution. We have carried out extensive research and development to ensure we can maximise Ecodan’s unique performance. To take full advantage of Ecodan, install an approved packaged system that teams Ecodan with the ideal water storage cylinder and perfect control system.

All Mitsubishi Electric Ecodan FTC5 cylinders use plate heat exchanger technology instead of an in-cylinder coil.  This gives a 17% improvement in DHW efficiency (over the FTC4 cylinders) and also improved heat up times.  

To combat the issue of scale found in hard water areas, the plate heat exchanger is protected by Mitsubishi Electric’s patented Scale-Stop Technology, ensuring efficiency and long life of the plate heat exchanger is maintained. Please click on the video to the right to learn more.

In addition to low running costs, Ecodan is classified as a renewable energy source because it captures free energy from the air.For every 1kW of electrical input power, Ecodan harvests and upgrades renewable heat energy from the outdoor air to provide the home with an average of at least 3kW of heat output*. This ‘free’ 2kW of renewable energy is then eligible for seven years of payments from the RHI.

In addition to low running costs, Ecodan is classified as a renewable energy source because it captures free energy from the air.

For every 1kW of electrical input power, Ecodan harvests and upgrades renewable heat energy from the outdoor air to provide the home with an average of at least 3kW of heat output*. This ‘free’ 2kW of renewable energy is then eligible for seven years of payments from the RHI. With an average 3-bed family home in the UK needing around 15,000kWh of heating per year, you can quickly see how the RHI payments can really make a difference.

You can increase these quarterly payments even further by adding a Metering & Monitoring Service Package (MMSP). This makes you eligible for an additional £1610 payment over the 7 years of your RDF funding.

The RHI Scheme has helped promote the growth of low carbon heating since its introduction in 2011 and the Government has continued to look for ways to enhance the Scheme.

Purchasing a Metering and Monitoring Service Package (MMSP) from your heat pump installer now makes you eligible for an additional £1610 payment over the 7 years of your RDF funding. 

An MMSP package will give you complete peace of mind that your Ecodan is working as expected and can also allow for remote diagnostics on your system, should it ever be needed.

A Wi-Fi connection is required at the property for MMSP. Wi-Fi access also enables you to control your heating from anywhere using the MELCloud remote control app.

The owners of a large family home in Essex have reduced their energy bills with the addition of a renewable heat pump to their existing heating system.

The five-bedroom detached property in Shenfield has had an 11.2kW Ecodan monobloc air source heat pump installed to meet the house’s heating requirements. With the gas boiler and Ecodan unit working independently, the home owners do not need to rely on metering to establish Renewable Heat Incentive payments.

With the house set up this way, those payments can be guaranteed by the deemed RHI calculation based on the house’s Energy Performance Certificate.

By working in this way, the initial investment can be kept low, whilst still delivering a significant contribution to savings on household energy costs.
